The Japanese manga series “Hunter Hunter” was created and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. Since March 16, 1998, the manga has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, though since 2006, there have been many prolonged hiatuses. As of November 2022, Shueisha in Japan had assembled 400 chapters into 37 tankōbon volumes, or chapter collections. The plot centers on a young child named Gon Freecss, who learns that his father—whom he was told had abandoned him when he was young—is actually a well-known hunter, a vocation that requires a license for individuals who specialize in, include, but are not restricted to, amazing activities like tracking down uncommon or unknown animal species, treasure hunting, exploring uncharted areas, or tracking down criminals. Gon sets out on a quest to follow in his footsteps, pass the demanding Hunter Exam, and ultimately track down his father despite the fact that he was abandoned by him. Along the journey, Gon experiences the paranormal and meets a variety of different Hunters, including Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua, the primary cast members. Togashi’s personal collection hobby served as the manga’s initial source of inspiration.

Hunter x Hunter was turned into a 62-episode anime television series in 1999, directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi and produced by Nippon Animation. The program debuted on Fuji TV in Japan and ran there until 2001. Nippon Animation went on to develop three distinct original video animations (OVAs) with a combined runtime of thirty episodes, which were distributed throughout Japan between 2002 and 2004. Two animated feature films were produced in 2013 in addition to a second Madhouse anime television series that ran for 148 episodes on Nippon Television from October 2011 to September 2014. Numerous video games, audio albums, musicals, and other media based on Hunter x Hunter are also available. Viz Media has been publishing the English-language manga in North America since April 2005. The first television series debuted on the Funimation Channel in 2009, while the second series has been airing on Adult Swim’s Toonami block since April 16, 2016. Both television series were also licensed by Viz. Currently, Peacock, Apple TV, Tubi, and The Roku Channel offer Hunter × Hunter for viewing.

With 72 million copies sold in Japan alone as of 2018, Hunter × Hunter has become one of Shueisha’s best-selling manga series and has enjoyed enormous critical and commercial success.
