India beat Australia by 6 runs

Shreyas Iyer, Mukesh Kumar, and Arshdeep Singh’s spectacular last over helped India win the last T20I in Bengaluru. India clinched the series 4-1 with the victory.

Arshdeep Singh held his nerve in the final over of the 5th T20I to enable India win a thriller on Sunday, 3 December at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India won the 5-match bilateral series 4-1 with a 6-run victory over Australia in the last T20I.

Arshdeep Singh bowled a spectacular last over after being struck for 37 runs in the first three overs of the contest. The left-arm pacer kept his cool, conceding only three runs in six deliveries while defending ten against Australia, who appeared to be heavy favorites to win the game.

India were put in a difficult situation in Bengaluru by a ballistic Travis Head (28 off 18), who once again gathered some quick runs in the powerplay. India captured two wickets in the powerplay but surrendered nearly ten runs per over. With the spinners still on the field, India had a chance, but it appeared early in the game that they were falling just short of the par score.

Rinku Singh has emerged as India’s new savior. Throughout the bilateral series, the batter has been outstanding. After all, the left-hander got out when attempting to slog Tanveer Sangha out of the park in the 10th over of the first innings.

Following Rinku’s dismissal, India had two quick cameos in Jitesh Sharma (24 off 16) and Axar Patel (31 off 21), but neither was significant enough to reverse the game’s momentum. Shreyas Iyer, India’s batsman, delivered a gutsy knock, took the game deep, and helped India put up a fight. In classic MS Dhoni fashion, Iyer did his best for the most of the innings before slamming a four and a six in the penultimate over against Nathan Ellis.

Iyer, on the other hand, was bowled by a blistering yorker in the third delivery of the final over. Perhaps that is Iyer’s next growth curve when the Indian team’s guard changes. The hitter completed his innings shortly after reaching his eighth T20I half-century, scoring 53 off 37 balls.

This enabled India to reach 160/8 on a challenging field at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a score that appeared to be defendable given the availability of Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel. While both spinners performed admirably, Mukesh Kumar emerged as India’s star in the dying overs, taking two wickets in the 17th over of the match. With the game, India sealed a 4-1 series triumph under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav.
