india vs new zealand

India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs to qualify for the 2023 World Cup final, with Virat Kohli (117) and Shreyas Iyer (105) starring with the bat before Mohammed Shami picked 7 for 57 to stop New Zealand, who had made a valiant effort in their chase of 398 at the Wankhede Stadium.

India advanced to the 2023 World Cup final with a resounding victory over New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. Virat Kohli’s 50th ODI century, Shreyas Iyer’s second straight hundred, and Mohammed Shami’s third five-wicket haul in three weeks highlighted India’s tenth consecutive triumph in the competition.

Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami have now topped the statistics for the most runs scored and wickets taken in this World Cup. While Kohli led India with 117 runs, Shami took career-best ODI figures of 7 for 57 to demolish New Zealand’s chase and set up a shock victory for India.

After surviving a scare from Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson, who had kept New Zealand in the hunt for a huge run chase, India were eventually able to break the semifinal curse and secure a berth in the final of an ODI World Cup. This is India’s fourth World Cup final appearance. They had won the World Cup in 1983, but had to wait 20 years to play in another World Cup final.

Following a disappointing campaign in 2007, India became the first host country to win the World Cup in 2011. Four years later, India led their group and went unbeaten before falling to Australia, the eventual champions, in a crushing defeat. India was the greatest team in the 2019 World Cup, but they were defeated by New Zealand in a nail-biting thriller that was delayed by weather and had to be played over two days.

In this World Cup, India has been cruel. They went undefeated in the group stage, defeating Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and the Netherlands.
