Asia Cup 2023 Final, India vs. Sri Lanka: India won the Asia Cup for the eighth time after defeating Sri Lanka in a one-sided final. India won the competition for the first time in 2018.. Mohammed Siraj grabbed 6 for 21 on Sunday as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 50, the lowest ODI team total against India.

India won the Asia Cup for the eighth time by chasing down a meager target of 51 against Sri Lanka. The result was a foregone conclusion as Mohammed Siraj shredded Sri Lanka’s batting line-up with figures of 6 for 21 off 7 overs on Sunday in Colombo after Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bat. Sri Lanka’s batters were perplexed, when five of them were dismissed without scoring.

India won the final with 263 balls to spare and all ten wickets intact after reaching their target in just 6.1 overs. In terms of remaining balls, this was India’s largest winning margin. The previous record was set against Kenya in 2001, when they chased down a 91-ball target with 231 balls left.

Ishan Kishan was promoted to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill. Although there was no rain at the toss, the start of play was delayed by 40 minutes due to a sprinkle. Jasprit Bumrah struck first, dismissing Kusal Perera in the first over, before Mohammed Siraj produced one of the finest displays of fast bowling in the history of the subcontinent.

Mohammed Siraj got four wickets in six balls to end Sri Lanka’s innings. Siraj removed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva in his second and third overs of the Sri Lankan innings. Siraj then removed Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka in his next over to become the joint fastest bowler to record a five-wicket haul in one-day internationals, attaining the milestone in only 2.4 overs.

After Stuart Binny (6 for 4), Anil Kumble (6 for 12), and Jasprit Bumrah (6 for 19), Mohammed Siraj’s 6 for 21 is the fourth greatest ODI figures by an Indian bowler. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s 50-run score is their second-lowest across one-day internationals and their lowest ever against India.

Despite entering the World Cup after winning the Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka has been highly good in the Asia Cup. In the Super 4, Sri Lanka defeated India in a tough encounter before stunning Pakistan in a rain-soaked match to reach the final. In front of raucous home supporters, Sri Lanka’s hitters lacked conviction and paid the price for bad shot selection against two of the world’s greatest pacers.

While Mohammed Siraj destroyed Sri Lanka’s top order, Hardik Pandya contributed three wickets, including two off two balls. The 2023 Asia Cup triumph demonstrated our unity and determination! @mdsirajofficial’s 6-wicket haul was a standout in the finals, but it was our team’s collective effort that earned us this coveted trophy.
. Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Cricket Team and support staff for this fantastic achievement”
