Fujino Ōmori wrote the Japanese light novel series Danjon ni Deai o Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darō ka, which is also referred to as DanMachi (ダンまち) and has an English subtitle called Familia Myth. Yasuda Suzuhito illustrated the series. Since January 2013, SB Creative has released nineteen volumes under the GA Bunko banner.
In addition to an anime television series created by J.C. Staff that ran from April to June 2015, it has been adapted into two manga books. December 7, 2016, was the release date of an OVA. In February 2018, news of a second anime season and an original anime film adaptation were released.On February 15, 2019, the movie Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion made its debut. In 2019, the second season ran from July to September. On September 27, 2019, news of an OVA episode and a third anime season were released. The COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay in the third season, which was originally scheduled to premiere in July 2020. October 2020 through December 2020 was when the third season aired. An further season aired from July 2022 to March 2023.
Furthermore, there is a spin-off light book series called Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? is the title of another spin-off light novel series. On the Side: Sword Oratoria debuted in January 2014. In March 2017, the Nilitsu-illustrated Familia Chronicle was launched. Manga adaptations have also been published for both spinoffs, and Sword Oratoria’s anime television series ran from April to June 2017.

The narrative is set in the made-up city of Orario. Many gods that live in the city have limited their divine powers to feel the suffering of people on the mortal earth because they are looking for excitement. Every deity keeps an entourage of explorers and attendants selected from the city’s populace, called a Familia (ファミリア, Famiria). These groups’ main pursuit is investigating the Dungeon, a maze located underneath the city (ダンジヨン, Danjon) in order to fight off enemies and collect the shards of crystal that they drop when they are destroyed. These shards can be immediately traded for global money in addition to being used to create magic items and other prizes. An adventurer’s power is determined by their level and a number of ability scores, in a manner common to role-playing games. An adventurer can raise their level and ability scores, as well as acquire unique abilities known as talents, by taking out more formidable creatures.
Storyline
The narrative centers on Bell Cranel, the lone member of the Hestia Familia and a 14-year-old rookie adventurer. After a fortuitous encounter in which she saves his life from a formidable monster, he takes inspiration from Ais Wallenstein, a well-known and formidable swordswoman of the Loki Familia, and swears to become as strong as her. Bell is in love with Ais, but he is also in love with a number of other girls, both mortal and divine, the most prominent of whom is Hestia.
