LG UltraGear OLED

LG has announced the release of a Dual-Hz OLED monitor with 4K 240Hz and FullHD 480Hz modes.

LG has revealed the UltraGear OLED gaming monitors that will be on display at CES 2024. The new 32GS95UE, in particular, has an intriguing trick up its sleeve.

LG calls the 32-inch 32GS95UE’s display Dual-Hz. This enables the monitor to switch between two modes: one in which it runs the display at its native 4K (3840×2160) resolution at a maximum refresh rate of 240Hz, and another in which it runs it at a reduced FullHD (1920×1080) resolution but at the panel’s maximum 480Hz refresh rate.

The user can easily switch between these modes by using a hotkey or the monitor’s joystick. When you change modes, the system should recognize the display as 4K 240Hz or 1080p 480Hz and scale accordingly. It appears that the panel is artificially limited to 240Hz at 4K, but no current display standards allow you to access the full 480Hz at 4K.

In addition, the 32GS95UE has 98.5% DCI-P3 coverage, 0.03ms GtG response times, DisplayHDR True Black 400 support, and dual HDMI 2.1 ports. Unfortunately, the single DisplayPort is only rated at 1.4, rather than the new DisplayPort 2.1, so you’ll have to rely heavily on Display Stream Compression (DSC) to access the full resolution and refresh rate.

LG also announced five other OLED monitors, including the 34-inch and 39-inch 34GS95QE and 39GS95QE, which have curved 3440×1440 panels with 240Hz refresh rate, 800R curvature, and similar connectivity to the 32GS95UE.

The 45GS95QE and 45GS96QB are both 45-inch 3440×1440 240Hz curved OLED monitors with the only difference being that the 45GS96QB has built-in speakers and USB-C 65W charging. Finally, the 27GS95QE has a 27-inch 2560×1440 240Hz flat panel and features similar to the previous models. Pricing and availability will be revealed at or after CES.

Highlight Feature of LG UltraGear

OLED Display:

  • This is the most crucial feature, as it offers stunning picture quality with perfect blacks, infinite contrast ratio, and incredibly fast response times. This translates to deeper immersion in games, especially in dark and fast-paced scenes.

High Refresh Rate and Response Time:

  • The 27GR95QE-B boasts a blazing-fast 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms (GtG) response time, making it the fastest OLED gaming monitor on the market as of December 2022. This ensures buttery-smooth gameplay with minimal blur or ghosting, even in the most demanding titles.
  • The 48GQ900-B offers a slightly lower but still impressive 120Hz (overclockable to 138Hz) refresh rate and 0.1ms (GtG) response time, which is still plenty fast for most gamers.

Accurate Colors:

  • Both models cover 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, ensuring vibrant and lifelike colors that faithfully represent the game’s original art style.

Gaming-Centric Features:

  • Both monitors come equipped with various gaming-centric features like G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility for tear-free gameplay, crosshair and FPS counter overlays, and customizable gaming modes.

Additional Features:

  • The 27GR95QE-B has a more traditional 27-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution, while the 48GQ900-B boasts a massive 48-inch UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution, making it ideal for immersive gaming or even replacing your TV.
  • Both monitors come with a remote control for easy on-screen navigation and adjustment of settings.

Overall, LG UltraGear OLED gaming monitors are some of the best options on the market for serious gamers who demand the very best in picture quality, performance, and features.
