Orxa Mantis electric motorcycle

The new motorcycle has some eye-catching stats and a dynamic design flair.

In India, Orxa Energies has introduced the Mantis electric motorcycle. The price is Rs 3.6 lakh (ex-showroom) and there is only one variation available. The Orxa Mantis does not qualify for FAME II subsidies because to its high price, but the company does provide a 1.3kW charger with each purchase.

The Mantis is a premium product, at least in terms of price, although it has a more traditional style than the other luxury electric motorbike in the market, the Ultraviolette F77. It does have an aggressive street naked look, with forceful dual pod LED headlights, a sharp cowl on the tank, and a multitude of cuts and creases.

Orxa Mantis

The Orxa Mantis is powered by a 27.8bhp electric motor with 93Nm of torque. This can drive it to a high speed of 135kmph, while the sprint from 0 to 100kmph takes 8.9 seconds. The motor is liquid-cooled, making this the first production electric motorcycle in India to use this technology. The manufacturer claims that this was done to reduce the size and weight of the motor, which weighs only 11.5kg.

The battery is an 8.9kWh cell that provides a claimed IDC range of 221km on a single charge for the Mantis. This is 14km greater than the Ultraviolette F77 while having less power, but more crucially, the Mantis weighs 182kg, whilst the F77 weighs 197kg.

The Mantis comes with a 1.3kW standard charger as standard equipment. Orxa also offers a faster 3.3kW charger, but has not disclosed the additional premium required for this. Both of these chargers can be wall-mounted or utilized as portable units.

While the launch and price announcement are complete, Orxa plans to begin Mantis deliveries in April of next year. Bookings for the Orxa Mantis are now available, with a Rs 10,000 deposit for the first thousand clients, after which the deposit will be increased to Rs 25,000.
