Pakistan ended a four-match losing streak in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, eliminating Bangladesh from contention for the semi-finals. On Tuesday, October 31, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
With this victory, Pakistan has surpassed Sri Lanka and Afghanistan to take fifth spot in the World Cup 2023 points standings. Bangladesh suffered their sixth defeat of the competition and stayed in ninth place in the points standings.
After being given the ball first, Shaheen Shah Afridi got Pakistan off to a flying start, dismissing Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan in the opening over. With this dismissal, Afridi became the quickest pacer in ODI history, breaking the previous record held by Australia’s Mitchell Starc. He returned in the third over to dismiss Najmul Shanto, who had continued his poor tournament form.
