Redmi A3

The Redmi A3 won’t remain a secret for long; Xiaomi recently disclosed that the new low-cost phone will land in India on February 14—next Wednesday—and it even verified a few details.

We released the A3’s initial live photos a few days ago. The 6.71″ 90Hz display was one of the standout features mentioned on the box, and the mi.com landing page does indeed highlight the “butter-smooth” 90Hz refresh rate. Though this is a little over the top, the Redmi A-series is as inexpensive as Android gets.

Another upgrade mentioned on the page is 6GB of RAM (plus an additional 6GB of virtual RAM). With 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage listed on the box from the leak, Xiaomi has obviously readyed a new level. The Redmi A2+, which began at a meager 2/32GB, also reached a maximum of 4/128GB.

Furthermore, although the battery capacity of 5,000mAh will not change, charging will now take place via USB-C (the A2/A2+ used microUSB). Since there is no mention of the charge speed, we assume it will stay at 10W.

The new design with the enormous circular camera island was also visible in the pictures we released. This is referred to by Xiaomi as the “All-New Premium Halo Design.”

Naturally, Xiaomi is not revealing the price just yet; we’ll find out the following week. Redmi A2 phones ranged in price from ₹6,300 for a 2/32GB model to ₹8,500 for a 4/128GB model (note that the 4/64GB model was originally priced at this amount, but it was replaced by the 4/128GB model a few months later). Though specifics are yet to be disclosed, the Redmi A3 ought to be accessible outside of India as well.
