Japanese manga, anime, and light novel series Seraph of the End (終わりのセラフ Owari no Serafu?) have been released, along with further media. Yu and Mika try to survive in a world dominated by vampires following a catastrophe in which the majority of humanity perishes. For other characters, the human soldiers in the Japanese Imperial Demon Army use demonic-powered cursed gear weaponry as a major tool of power consolidation. And there are seraphs. The Seraph of the End: Guren Ichinose: Catastrophe at Sixteen light novels contain a prequel story that follows Guren as a teenager with his peers prior to the apocalyptic event. These light novels have been adapted into manga for two Seraph of the End manga series that were published simultaneously. Everything that happens in each chapter is documented in the Catastrophe at Sixteen Manga Story by Chapter article. The precursor tale is continued in the Seraph of the End: Guren Ichinose: Resurrection at Nineteen light book series, which takes place just after the world ends and before the events of the Owari no Seraph manga.

Captured as youngsters, Yu and Mika were carried to the underground vampire capital city of Sanguinem, along with their family from the Hyakuya Orphanage. Only Yu managed to flee the massacre after noble Ferid Bathory exposed an escape as a trap. Mika managed to survive by becoming a vampire thanks to Krul Tepes, the third progenitor and Japanese queen. Guren Ichinose spotted Yu outside and took him in. After four years, Yu obtained Asuramaru, a cursed gear sword, and joined Shinoa Hīragi’s squad together with Yoichi Saotome, his first friend, and Shihō Kimizuki, a trainee.Mitsuba Sangū would be the fifth participant. Apart from facing dangers from the Horsemen of the Apocalypse creatures, the group would also have to deal with live vampire attacks and liberate enslaved humans from one of their hideouts. After that, they were dispatched to Shinjuku where they would encounter Crowley Eusford, the thirteenth progenitor, and assist in repelling a full-scale vampire invasion. Mika was in the city with Ferid, who had also made it out alive. Once Yu and Mika had reunited, Yu would change into a hideous creature with only one wing. The vampire soldiers would withdraw as Kureto and Shinya Hīragi of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army led reinforcements.
Following their training with their cursed equipment, the Shinoa Squad joined a Nagoya operation that was aimed at vampire nobility. When paired with Makoto Narumi’s team, they defeated Lucal Wesker, the fifteenth progenitor. They would try to free the hostages that Crowley had seized, together with Guren’s team, because missions elsewhere had failed. Guren was successful, but the vampires captured him. Yu passed out from exhaustion from his incomplete demon metamorphosis. Mika would find Yu during the flight to the airport, and as Shinoa and her team were protecting him, he was assisted in escaping with Yu. When Kureto arrived at the airport without any means of transportation, he would use the survivors as a sacrifice to reenergize the seraph inside Mirai Kimizuki. Mika and Yu would join the others present to witness the planet being invaded by the demon Abaddon. By using his innate seraph power, Yu would be able to eliminate Abaddon. Yu and the team, now including Mika and Narumi, would flee from everything as Guren appeared to have deserted them, Krul was ambushed by Ferid, and the forces of the vampires and the Imperial Demon army clashed.
After the events at Nagoya airport, Yu began changing into a demon for longer periods of time three months later near the sea. They could not defeat Ferid and Crowley when they discovered them, so their only choice was to go along with their schemes. Despite this, they proceeded with Mika’s plan to save Krul in order to aid them. However, when they arrived in Osaka Bay, they discovered a large number of foreign vampire nobles. Saitō was talking to the prisoner Krul nearby. After Krul and Ferid were found guilty of allowing Sanguinem to fall to humans and the seraph they controlled, they were sentenced to sunlight exposure torture by the Progenitor Council members Urd Geales and Lest Karr, who were unable to stop his escape. Yu and Mika saw their family members’ bodies in storage when Shinoa squad and Crowley arrived at Ferid’s residence. Guren showed up to tell Makoto’s team that he intended to bring humanity back to life. They were also kept there.Kureto, having deposed his father Tenri Hīragi, meets Shikama Dōji, who has been in possession of the heads of the Hīragi family. Training begins to assist Yu learn how to regulate his seraph skills. The fifth progenitor Ky Luc, who is watching over Krul and Ferid, is then attacked. Ferid is set free but Ky Luc escapes with Krul after they are unable to stop him.
When Guren returns to the house where he was raised, the previous experimentation is revealed. The sixth trumpeter who has been calling forth the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a seraph, is also housed there. The seraph considers Yu to be a traitor and launches an attack upon hearing that Saitō is the one behind the human testing. While this is going on, Shikama Dōji fortifies himself by manipulating Shinoa’s feelings.A dagger in the shape of a cross is freed from the seraph’s body when it is defeated. Two of these were acquired by Saitō elsewhere through a scheme that took thousands of years to develop. After being brought to Sanguinem, Krul consents to tell Urd what she knows as long as the restrictions imposed on vampires by the original progenitor—now known as Shikama Dōji—are changed. The Four Horsemen of John vanish from the world as a result of the seraph’s demise, and people can once again go outside. Asuramaru discovered that Yu had memories of the past return at the area where he used his seraph powers. Asuramaru, a human with Krul as his sister, was discovered by Sika Madu together with a small kid who appeared to be Yu.
Travelers are aware of Shikama Dōji and travel to Shibuya. Shikama Dōji assaults Asuramaru while Kureto is possessed and in the plane where demons can communicate with humans. Dōji targets Shinoa when she comes to assist Shikama and begins to physically take control of her body. All around the planet, vampires detect the first’s presence. Saitō points missiles against the plane carrying Urd. When Yu offers to help Shinoa by sharing his memories, a Hyakuya Sect operative kidnaps him. Shinoa’s body contains Shikama Dōji, which attacks anyone around. The forces of the Hyakuya Sect, led by Saitō, comprise both humans and vampires, and they also attack Shibuya. Saitō gains the strength to confront the first by using chains to drain the strength of his soldiers. Guren divides his demon Mahiru-no-Yo into Mahiru and Noya’s component entities. He may now join the battle and feels emboldened. When Saitō tries to turn on Guren in order to drain the demons’ strength, Guren betrays him with Ferid’s assistance. After Saitō is defeated, Guren and his demons seal Shikama Dōji and rescue Shinoa using three sinful keys.
Guren starts working on completing the next phase of his plan since his power is running low. As Guren discovers them, he strikes Mika and Yu. When the battle reached that point, Mika gave his life to stop Guren. When Krul gets there, he sees Mika’s body explode and rise into the air. Guren claims that a black demon is giving birth. Mika awakens in a peaceful world with his family from the orphanage, understands it’s an illusion, but is content to remain there. After learning that there is no longer any chance to save him, Yu leaves Mika and flees Shibuya with the Shinoa squad and Krul. Shikama Dōji appears to be awake and listening within Shinoa’s body while Krul reveals the specifics of Mahiru’s scheme. When Guren and Mahiru arrive, Shinoa manages to take him under control. Reaching out to Asuramaru, Shikama Dōji begs him to apprehend Mikaela before the humans do. Asuramaru is with Kiseki-o and Gekkouin within the dream world where they manage to outmaneuver Mikaela to reach Mika with the illusionary Yu. To satisfy his innermost desire and allay his fear of being held responsible for their murders, Asuramaru forces Mika to murder his relatives from the orphanage. Yu uses a spell circle to enter the world, and with the help of three seraph, he vanquishes the three dark demons.
