Xiaomi, a well-known smartphone maker, has entered the electric vehicle market with the introduction of its first EV, the Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan. This move establishes Xiaomi as a new EV rival, battling major competitors such as Tesla and BMW. The SU7 series is divided into three models: the ordinary SU7, the SU7 Pro, and the SU7 Max, each of which caters to distinct consumer tastes and needs.
According to a news report, the Xiaomi SU7 has amazing dimensions, measuring 4,997mm in length, 1,963mm in width, and 1,455mm in height, with a hefty wheelbase of 3,000mm. Customers can select between two elegant wheel sizes, 19-inch or 20-inch, to improve the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal.
The SU7 has two powerplant options under the hood. The RWD version has a 220kW motor, while the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant has a total power of 495kW thanks to a dual-motor system (220kW front + 275kW rear). The battery technology differs between trims, with the less expensive model using a BYD LFP battery pack and the premium variant using a CATL ternary NMC battery.
According to the performance parameters, the lesser trim has a curb weight of 1,980kg and a top speed of 210kmph. The highest trim model, on the other hand, weighs 2,205kg and has a top speed of 265kmph. These numbers indicate that the SU7 series is intended to provide both efficiency and performance.

The production of the Xiaomi SU7 is set to commence in December 2023, with the first deliveries expected in February 2024. The BAIC Off-road Vehicle Company factory in Beijing has initiated trial production, showcasing BAIC’s role as the contract manufacturer for the SU7. Notably, BAIC also has ties with Mercedes-Benz, producing vehicles for the brand in China and holding a stake in the company.
Xiaomi announced its intention to invest around USD 1.4 billion in this new business in March 2021, signaling the company’s entry into the EV market. The domain XiaomiEV.com was registered in August 2023, marking a crucial step toward fulfilling Xiaomi’s electric dream.
