The R3 has returned to India after a brief absence, while the MT-03 has made its premiere.

India Yamaha Motor has introduced the YZF R3 2023 and the MT-03 in India. Both bikes use the same base and powertrain. The MT-03 costs Rs 4.6 lakh (ex-showroom), whilst the MT-03 costs Rs 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom).

The identical 321cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke, inline two-cylinder engine powers both the 2023 Yamaha R3 and the 2023 Yamaha MT-03. This engine generates 42bhp and 29.5Nm of torque. Both motorcycles have a lightweight diamond frame suspended by a USD and a monocross rear suspension, with the front having 130mm of travel and the rear offering 125mm.

Visually, the 2023 Yamaha R3 borrows heavily from the litre-class YZF-R1 with full fairing. LED lighting is used in the headlamps, taillamps, and turn signals. The R3 joins the R15, which has been on the market in India. The strong streetfighter style distinguishes the MT-03 from the rest of the MT series. This, too, has all-around LED lighting. A 298mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the back provide braking for both motorcycles.

Eishin Chihana, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of Companies said, “As an integral aspect of the ‘The Call of the Blue’ brand campaign, Yamaha is committed to strengthen its premium segment range by introducing models that appeal to the need of young Indian consumers. The R-series and MT-series models enjoy a huge fan base in India because of their superior performance and iconic design. These Yamaha fans have been waiting for a long time to elevate their riding experience with the larger displacement models in this series. In alignment with this dedication, we are excited to announce today the launch of our latest – supersport bike, R3 and hyper-naked, MT-03 in India. We are confident that both these models, showcasing Yamaha’s cutting-edge technology and innovation, will undoubtedly captivate the interest of our young customers in the country and offer them a thrilling ride experience. With the addition of these step-up models in the R-series & MT-series, we look forward to further nurture the growing premium motorcycle segment in India.”

The 2023 Yamaha R3 is designed for racing and has an almost 50/50 weight distribution in the front and rear. The handlebar crown is composed of cast aluminum, which helps handling, and the aerodynamics ensure that the motorbike exceeds performance expectations.

Yamaha offers the R3 in two colors: Icon Blue and Yamaha Black, and the MT-03 in two colors as well: Midnight Cyan and Midnight Black. The prices are the same for both color selections. Customers who are interested in booking a motorcycle can do so starting today on Yamaha’s website.
