In May, vivo published the Android 14 beta for the vivo X90 Pro, then in September, the company announced the Funtouch OS 14 Preview Program for the smartphone. Today, vivo officially unveiled Funtouch OS 14 and published a list of vivo smartphones eligible for the upgrade in India, as well as a timeframe for the beta version’s deployment.

iQOO also revealed the timeline for the Funtouch OS 14 beta’s availability in India. More than a dozen iQOO smartphones are eligible for the upgrade, with the iQOO 11 being the first to experience Funtouch OS 14. The upgrade will be available today, and anyone interested can sign up for the beta program later today. The whole roadmap is shown in the image below. Also, keep in mind that iQOO will not be releasing Funtouch OS 14 for the Z5 and previous versions.

There are more than 30 smartphones on the list, with the vivo X90 and X90 Pro receiving beta upgrades in mid-October. The X80 Pro will be updated in mid-November, followed by the X80, V29 Pro, V29, V27 Pro, and V27 in December. The whole list, along with the deployment timeline, is shown in the graphic below.

Funtouch OS 14 primarily focuses on five areas – Personalisation, Productivity, Multi-tasking, Smoothness, and Privacy.

For personalization, you now get three clock layouts on the lock screen with eight font styles and a smart color selection. You can also apply a monochromatic color palette to the system to match your wallpapers. It’s based on the Material You design and is called MY Color Palette.

Furthermore, the Theme Store now has 90+ Always-On Display styles, and you may choose various ringtones for separate SIM cards. In terms of productivity, you now have new video editing tools that enable for original quality, lossless video output. You can also export videos in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Furthermore, there are 25 new video editing filters, all of which are shown in enhanced thumbnails. You have a Mini Window for multitasking, which simplifies multitasking by reducing the app to a small window that remains active in the background and may be moved around on the screen while you are using another app. It supports side-swipe suspension and allows you to run up to 12 tiny windows in the background.
With its RAM Saver, Extended RAM 3.0, Motion Blur, and App Retainer features, Funtouch OS 14 will provide a more fluid experience. RAM Saver will free up to 600MB of space for faster app startup, while Extended RAM 3.0 will let you to run up to 36 apps in the background on a smartphone with 12GB RAM (up to 27 apps with 8GB RAM).

App Retainer, on the other hand, will ensure that the 100+ whitelisted apps that are running in the background and are not manually closed are returned to their previous UI so users can continue where they left off, giving an uninterrupted experience. This feature, however, is not entirely new, as iQOO first debuted it with the iQOO Neo7 Pro. However, App Retainer on the Neo7 Pro does not support Facebook, one of the most popular apps, and when we inquired about it, we were told that it might be added to the list of whitelisted apps in the future.

When it comes to Motion Blur, this feature will provide smooth animation during app switching by 18.7% at a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Finally, privacy is now protected with better App Hiding and password security for concealed photographs and Screen Mirroring. The Screen Mirroring option disables notification pop-ups, ensuring that your personal information is not revealed when the phone’s content is mirrored on another device.
