On Friday, 1 December, at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, the Indian squad held their nerve to defend 174 runs against Matthew Wade’s Australia.
Rinku Singh emerged as the protagonist among the new-age stars in Indian cricket once more, striking a spectacular 46 off 29 balls, an effort that not only saved India from a mini-collapse but also proved to be one of the primary grounds of contention between the two teams.
Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma put up a decent 174/9 on a wicket that gripped heavily from the start of the innings. If Rinku was the standout performer in the first innings, Axar Patel emerged as the battle-hardened gladiator with the ball in the second, taking three wickets for only 16 runs. Patel scored his greatest performance since being injured in the Asia Cup 2023, only a day after being left out of South Africa’s T20I squad.
Suryakumar Yadav’s squad was able to defend their first innings total by 20 runs thanks to Axar’s spell and some fine death bowling from the India pacers. With the victory, India sealed the series, carrying a 3-1 advantage into the final game in Bengaluru.
