Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan both struck half-centuries as India successfully chased down a 208-run mark in Visakhapatnam to grab a 1-0 series lead.

India defeated Australia by two wickets in the series opener in Visakhapatnam, recording their most successful run-chase in T20Is. On Thursday, November 23, the Men in Blue chased down a massive target of 209 in 19.5 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Their previous best run-chase was 208 against the West Indies in December 2019 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It was also the fifth occasion in T20Is that India successfully chased a goal of more than 200 runs. After being given the opportunity to bat first, Australia amassed a magnificent total of 208 for the loss of three wickets. Ravi Bishnoi took the early wicket of Matthew Short, but Steve Smith and Josh Inglis made sure they ruled the game.

In 11.1 overs, Smith and Inglis put up 130 runs for the second wicket. Steve was cautious, scoring 52 runs off 41 balls with eight fours before being run out. Inglis, on the other hand, stormed to his fifty off 29 balls, followed by his maiden T20I half-century off 47 balls. In addition, he tied Aaron Finch’s record for the fastest T20I century by an Australian hitter.

nglis ended up scoring 110 runs off 50 balls with 11 fours and eight sixes before being caught by Prasidh Krishna. Tim David swung his bat at everything to score 19 runs off 13 balls.Krishna and Bishnoi got one wicket apiece, but they leaked 104 runs off their eight overs. Mukesh Kumar was their most economical bowler with figures of 4-0-29-0.

Ruturaj Gaikwad died without facing a single delivery, thus India did not get off to the best of starts. Gaikwad was run out following a disastrous mix-up with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 21 runs off eight balls before being bowled by Short. Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav put India back in the game with a 132-run partnership off 10 overs. Kishan was on 4 off 12 balls when he stood up to complete his half-century in 37 balls.

Kishan, on the other hand, was dismissed after smashing 58 runs off 39 balls with two fours and five sixes. Meanwhile, Suryakumar scored a half-century off 29 balls to keep India in the hunt. He was also the second Indian, behind KL Rahul, to score a half-century on his T20I captaincy debut.
