Asian Games 2023: Ruturaj Gaikwad’s India beat Rohit Paudel’s Nepal by 23 runs in the quarters on Tuesday and booked their berth in the semi-final. Yashasvi Jaiswal became the youngest Indian to score a T20I hundred.

India qualified to the Asian Games 2023 men’s cricket semi-finals after defeating Nepal by 23 runs in the quarter-finals at Hangzhou’s Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field.

India scored 202 for the cost of four wickets after being put in to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad set the tone with a 103-run partnership for the first wicket off 9.5 overs. Gaikwad labored, scoring 25 runs off 23 balls before being dismissed by Dipendra Singh Airee. Jaiswal, on the other hand, went on to score his first T20I century off 48 balls.

India were able to surpass the 200-run mark thanks to Jaiswal’s knock. Tilak Varma and Jitesh Sharma were both out for single digits before Rinku Singh came in and scored 37 runs off 15 balls with two fours and four sixes. Shivam Dube too made effective use of the long handle, scoring 25 runs off 19 balls with two fours and a six. Dipendra was the standout Nepal bowler, with two wickets. Sandeep Lamichhane and Sompal Kami both took one wicket.

Nepal gave it their all in their run-chase, but fell short of the goal. Kushal Bhurtel scored 28 runs, but he mostly struggled at less than a run-a-ball pace. Kushal Malla, who holds the record for the fastest T20I century, scored 29 runs off 22 balls before being removed by Ravi Bishnoi.

Dipendra Airee beat Yuvraj Singh’s record for the fastest T20I fifty with 32 runs off 15 balls and four fours. Bishnoi took his prized wicket to keep India in the game. Sundeep Jora showed no signs of giving up, smashing 29 runs off 12 balls with one four and three sixes. Karan KC swung his bat around, but Nepal could only score 179 for the cost of nine wickets.
